Jennifer holds her small group Hatha Yoga classes on Wednesday
evenings and Thursday mornings and her her Power Yoga session on Friday mornings. Jen’s sessions are specifically tailored
to the individuals and place particular emphasis on stress-related health problems as well as the meeting of mind, body and
breath to promote balance, relaxation and harmony.
Jennifer
first practised Yoga over 20 years ago, when a forward-thinking headmaster offered it at her school in place of PE. She has
worked with a variety of instructors over the years, whilst also enjoying mainstream sports such as skiing, cycling and rowing.
After the birth of her first child she returned to Yoga in earnest, not only to regain her figure, but to help her
through what was a stressful time in her life. It was then that she was inspired to train as a Yoga teacher. Her teaching
Diploma is held with the British Wheel of Yoga, this being the only accredited Yoga Instructor’s qualification in the
UK.
The Yoga Method
Many of us lead increasingly stressful lives. Stress is the most
widespread cause of ill health in the Western world. The body and breath training of Yoga practise can bring about relaxation
and life enhancing changes.
Yoga is an ancient tradition originating from
India, over 3,000 years ago. Hatha Yoga is one system that has been widely adopted in the Western hemisphere, this system
has a holistic and balanced approach to wellbeing by combining physical exercises with breathing and relaxation techniques.
The physical work in Yoga stretches and tones
muscles improving flexibility. In addition it opens the joints and so increases range of movement. In the East, many systems
work with the body’s energy channels (the meridians used in Chinese Acupuncture). Yoga stimulates and opens these channels,
releasing blocked energy, helping to cleanse the body through the elimination of wastes.
Power
Yoga
Jen has recently added a Power Yoga session to her timetable. The one hour class consists of intense stretches
with strong, flowing posture work. It is not recommended to those with no previous Yoga practise.
Places are limited to all of Jen's sessions.
